How Family Law Mediation Works

A structured negotiation process designed to narrow disputes,
explore workable agreements, and clarify what comes next.

Schedule Mediation

A Practical Process

The mediator guides the negotiation.
The parties decide the outcome.

The mediator does not represent either side or impose a result.
Mediation creates a focused setting to work through disputed
issues, evaluate options, and reach agreement where possible.

From Request to Resolution

What to Expect

02

Identify Potential Dates

Preferred dates can be identified during scheduling.
A requested date is not reserved until the mediation
is confirmed.

The mediation date is confirmed after the applicable
payment process is completed and KSL confirms the date.

04

Prepare

Identify what needs to be resolved and assemble the
financial, parenting, or other information needed for
meaningful settlement discussions.

05

Mediate

The mediator facilitates negotiation between the parties.
The mediator remains neutral and does not impose a result.

06

Resolve—or Narrow—the Issues

Complete settlement is not the only useful outcome.
Mediation may resolve part of the case, establish workable
agreements, or clarify what remains disputed.
