Family Law Mediation

A focused process for resolving or narrowing parenting, financial, property, divorce, and post-decree disputes with the assistance of a neutral mediator.

What Mediation Does

Create room for informed decisions.

Family law mediation gives participants and their attorneys a structured setting to address disputed issues outside the courtroom. The mediator remains neutral while the parties evaluate proposals, priorities, legal positions, and practical alternatives.

A productive mediation does not require every issue to resolve. Agreement on part of a case, a narrower dispute, or clearer understanding of what remains contested can all move a family law matter forward.

KSL Mediation serves Washington family law matters involving represented parties in King and Snohomish Counties.

A Practical Process

Mediation can create progress in more than one way.

Resolve

Reach agreement where possible.

The parties may resolve all or part of the disputed issues and determine how those agreements should be documented.

Narrow

Reduce what remains contested.

Resolving some issues can reduce litigation pressure and focus later negotiations or proceedings.

Clarify

Identify the decisions that still need to be made.

A focused session can separate the true decision points from the history and conflict surrounding them.

Evaluate

Test proposals and alternatives.

Mediation creates space for parties and counsel to evaluate priorities, tradeoffs, risks, and possible settlement terms.

The Process

From request to mediation.

01

Request Mediation

Provide information about the matter, participants, counsel, anticipated mediation needs, and preferred dates.

02

Confirm Scheduling

Requested dates remain subject to availability until the applicable scheduling and payment process is completed and KSL confirms the mediation.

03

Prepare

Counsel and participants identify the disputed issues and assemble the information needed for productive settlement discussions.

04

Mediate

The neutral mediator facilitates negotiation while the participants decide whether proposed terms are acceptable.
